blue door, mrauk-u
In the 13th-century ruins of Mrauk-U, in north-east Burma, you can still find stone Buddhas undisturbed for centuries, among collapsed temples and pagodas, overgrown with vines and moss. To find one feels extraordinary, exhilarating. But others, like this immense head, have been removed to a drab little museum in the town, where they sit on painted tables like packages in a storage shed, lit by flourescent light and locked up tight at night.
